SIBU: Police have arrested a 26-year-old man here on suspicion of drug possession.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the local man was picked up around 1 pm on Thursday (Nov 10) in a house at Jalan Serai.

“An inspection conducted found him in possession of several plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be ketamine,” he said in a statement today (Nov 11).

He said the drugs weighing about 60.72 grams were worth approximately RM8,950.

“Also found are 10 pills of Erimin 5 weighing about 2.79 grams, 34 pills of Ecstasy weighing 12.78 grams and powdered ecstasy weighing about 956 grams, all the drugs were valued at RM18,340.

“The total seizure is estimated to be valued at RM27,290,” he said.

Zulkipli said that the suspect who tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and ketamine had several previous records of drug abuse.

“He is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and remanded for six days to facilitate investigations.

“Section 39B provides for a death sentence or life imprisonment and a minimum 15 strokes of the rotan, while Section 15(1)(a) carries a fine of not more than RM5,000, or up to two years imprisonment or both, upon conviction,” he said.
