Man threatens, beats up landlord

MIRI: A tenant who refused to pay his monthly rental not only threatened his landlord with a machete, but he also beat him up in an incident that occurred on Friday night at Sealine 2 Lutong.

In the 7.30pm incident, the 57-year-old owner of the house sustained injuries on his right cheek and elbow after the tenant, an Indonesian man, went berserk and hit him on his face.

According to Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari, the incident occurred after the tenant refused to pay the rental when he was asked to that night.

A police report has been lodged by the victim and acting on the report lodged, a team from the Miri Criminal Investigations Department (CID) IPD Miri picked up the 23-year-old suspect at the house for questioning around 10pm that same night.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the state illegally.

The case is being investigated under Section 506, Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
