KUCHING: A man escaped uninjured after the compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) he was driving crashed into a lamp post near a local bank at Jalan Pending here early yesterday.
It was believed that the driver, known only as Teng, was travelling along the road around 2.50am when his vehicle suddenly went out of control, skidded on the road divider and hit the lamp post.
Shortly after he got out of the vehicle, it burst into flames.
Eight firefighters from Kuching fire station,led by Senior Fire Officer II Avtar Singh, rushed to the scene after a distress call was received at 2.53am.
They arrived three minutes later and took less than five minutes to put out the fire.
It was reported that engine of compartment of the compact SUV was totally damaged.
