KOTA KINABALU: Marine police in Kudat detained six men, five of whom had no identification documents, at two locations during the ‘Gelora Khas’ Operation in the waters off Kudat Wednesday.

Sabah Marine Police Region 4 commander ACP Mohamad Pajeri Ali said four men were arrested at 12.10pm in the north of Straggler Island, Kudat, while the two others were detained in the waters off Latoan Kudat.

In the operation near Straggler Island, the marine police stopped a suspicious yellow-striped white boat that had passed through the area.

“Initial investigation found that four men aged between 30 and 50 were in the boat. All of them did not have identification documents. Different types of items used for fish-bombing were also found in the boat,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The total value of the seized items, which included the boat and an engine, was RM8,090. The case is being investigated under the Explosives Act 1957.

In the Latoan Kudat waters, Mohamad Pajeri said, the police captured a fishing boat with two men in it.

He said there was also a transparent crystal package believed to be syabu that was in a bag belonging to a 27-year-old crew member. –  Bernama
