KUCHING: Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kassim together with the director of Aviation Development and two other senior managers paid a courtesy call on Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, the Minister for Transport.

The delegation also gave a briefing to him and ministry permanent secretary and officers of the ministry’s Aviation Division.

The Mavcom team briefed on passenger traffic trends, airfares, rural air services, licensing matters, quality of service at airports and others under its purview.

Among the matters raised with Mavcom by Lee included complaints on high airfares, especially during festive seasons, flight schedule, refunds for cancellation of flights, the need for more flights, resuming the Kuching/Pontianak/Kuching flights, the need to improve quality of service and airport facilities, aerodrome operator licensing, air service license, and rural air services.

On the subject of high air fares, Saripuddin said Mavcom was monitoring the situation closely.

However, he advised travellers to plan their festive travels ahead and to make early bookings to enjoy cheaper airfares.
