Mayor in Japan for smart city training workshop

KUCHING: Delegates from 19 cities, including Kuching, are attending the International Training Workshop on Smart Cities for Building Inclusive, Resilient, Livable and Sustainable Cities and Communities in Asia in Japan.

According to a statement by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, he was given the opportunity to present the current situation in Kuching City.

“I emphasised the significance of collaboration and guidance from the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD)  in the development of a sustainable smart city here,” he said.

He also stated he is committed to ensuring the people of Kuching not only embrace but also actively participate in the development of the smart city.

“The concept of a smart city is not just about technological advancements; it’s about enhancing the quality of life for our citizens.

“It is about improving mobility, preserving our environment, and fostering inclusivity,” he added.

The workshop is being held from Aug 29 to Sept 1.
