KUCHING: The opposition parties should work together with the council to deal with public complaints, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn.
According to Mayor Chan, the council is trying its best to provide quality services and it is not fair for opposition parties to accuse it of not carrying out its duties.
“Instead of pointing out the issues only, why not help us and inform us about it so that we can address the issue,” said Mayor Chan who will turn 67 this coming 1 June.
“Work with us to get the public complaints to be addressed, don’t just point things out,” he told reporters after launching an event “Parking Space & Car Sticker for OKU” at Stutong Community Hawkers Centre here yesterday.
Mayor Chan added they should come up to him and be constructive in solving public complaints.
He also noted that all the issues brought out by the opposition have been addressed by the council.
He reiterated the council just wants to do a proper job for the community and it is not fair for them (the opposition) to accuse MBKS of not doing their work.
“When they accused MBKS of not doing their job, it also hurt my staff, and please, do not play politics with us as we only want to do our work,” added Mayor Chan who previously worked as General Manager of Harwood Timber Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC).
He succeeded Chong Ted Tsiung, the third mayor of Kuching South City, who died on 3 August 2007.
Chan was sworn in as mayor on 4 June 2008.
