MBKS, China’s Dongcheng district forge friendship

KUCHING: The friendship between Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Dongcheng District in Beijing, China was forged after a Letter of Intent (LoI) on the Establishment of Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation was inked yesterday.

The “Friendly Exchanges and Cooperation” collaboration between the two cities was signed by MBKS mayor Datuk James Chan and Dongcheng’s vice mayor Zhao Lingyun, witnessed by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The agreement aims to promote bilateral and mutual understanding between the regions as well as exchanges to develop cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education, personnel, science and technology, culture, tourism and more.

As such, future exchanges between the two cities would strengthen the understanding and cooperation of cultural identities of both cities.

“Dongcheng District is a prestigious district no less than other cities in China

and is one of the richestdistricts with all the cultural attractions.

“Kuching, also known as the city of unity, has decided to cooperate with Dongcheng District by signing the letter,” said Chan before the signing ceremony.

He added the fact that the delegation of Dongcheng District, who willingly came to Kuching, was reputable enough and having to experience for themselves what the city has to offer would further inspire them and position Kuching as a renowned city.

“It is hoped that through this cooperation, the two cities will be able to contribute and share the benefits created.”

Chan also disclosed that Dongcheng District is the sixth district in China to sign the LoI with MBKS.

Meanwhile, Zhao said the signing of the letter would forge a cooperation that would benefit the two cities and its people.
