MCC flood-mitigation projects on schedule

MIRI: The RM8.5-million flood-mitigation projects in this city are proceeding on schedule, according to the Miri City Council (MCC).

The MCC said in a statement yesterday that six of the nine projects had been completed and that the remaining three were expected to be ready by the end of the year.

The six completed projects involved the upgrading of the drainage for Jalan Geikie/Jalan Lim Chee Hian; Jalan Kampung Luak; Jalan Krokop 10; Jalan Jee Foh 8A; Jalan Datuk Muip  in  Taman Piasau and Jalan Pujut.

“The remaining three projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year,” it said, adding that mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang visited the three projects last week to check on their progress.

The MCC said the three projects involved the upgrading of the roads and drains along Jalan Sibu-Miri Taman Tunku where the work had progressed to  50 per cent; Jalan Pujut Adong (85 per cent) and Jalan Tanjung Batu Pujut (also 85 per cent)

“After the site inspection, the mayor said he was satisfied with the progress of work and expressed optimism that the projects would be completed ahead of the approaching rainy season,” the statement said, adding that the RM8.5-million allocation was from the Sarawak government.- Bernama
