MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) will have a new mayor on July 11. On the same date, the line-up of new MCC councillors will also be announced.
“The Sarawak government has decided not to extend the appointment of all existing councillors in the local authorities whose term expires on June 30,” said Mayor Adam Yii after chairing the last council meeting by the current office-bearers on Friday afternoon.
Asked if his successor will be another SUPP man, Yii merely nodded his head.
He, however, stated that the state Cabinet will endorse the new list of councillors and an announcement will be made on July 11.
On the city’s celebration which was postponed earlier, Yii said, “God willing, it will be held on July 13 as scheduled.”
“Our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will grace the event,” he added.
