Meticulous probe into Kanowit riot

KUCHING: Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the recent riot incident that occurred in Kanowit on Sept 12.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said that there have been no recent updates at this time.

“We are diligently pursuing this investigation. However, as of now, there have been no significant developments,” he said during a press conference yesterday (Sept 19).

The riot incident, which gained widespread attention on social media, occurred in the parking area behind the Kanowit district office about 1.30 pm.

During the incident, two individuals sustained injuries as they were assaulted by a group of individuals wielding objects, and their vehicles were also subjected to damage.

Authorities are appealing to anyone possessing information relevant to this incident to reach out to the Kanowit Criminal Investigation Division (CID) chief, ASP Mohd Faizal Nawi, at 016-8657432 or contact the Kanowit district police headquarters at 084-752222.

The case is being investigation under Section 148 of the Penal Code, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
