SIBU: Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has called for greater male participation in programmes for women.

Citing the Jelajah Kerjaya Wanita Sarawak as an example, the Dalat assemblywoman noted that these programmes are typically attended only by women.

“We need to dispel the stereotype that women’s programmes are exclusively for women. Men are also encouraged to participate in such programmes to demonstrate support and gain knowledge.”

Fatimah said this during the Program Jelajah Kerjaya Wanita Sarawak Bahagian Sibu at Sibu Gateway here on Friday (March 1).

At the programme, a total of 43 recipients received Female Head of Household Micro Assistance (KIRWaS) amounting to RM500, while 143 women from the lower-income group have received a total grant of RM276,158.50.

Meanwhile, on the programme, she said that four locations, namely Sibu, Kapit, Samarahan, and Limbang, have been identified for the programme this year.

“For the programme taking place today until tomorrow, a total of 14 government agencies and registration agencies will deliver service briefings and open consultation counters to provide various grants and entrepreneurial assistance.

“I hope that the entire community in Bintulu and its surrounding areas will take advantage of and benefit from the organisation of this programme, especially women seeking opportunities in income generation as successful entrepreneurs.”

Fatimah hoped that public information and feedback can be gathered through the programme and used as a reference for departmental planning in the future, whether in policy formulation or programme initiative.

Also present was Sarawak Women and Family Department director Salmah Jobeli.
