Ministry eyes collaboration with Sarawak on hydrogen technology

KUCHING: The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) is actively exploring opportunities to collaborate with the Sarawak government in the field of renewable hydrogen-based energy sources.

Its minister Chang Lih Kang emphasised that Sarawak has demonstrated outstanding achievements in hydrogen technology and its associated economy, making it a valuable reference point for their endeavours.

“We have engaged in extensive discussions, particularly focusing on the potential for cooperation and the hydrogen economy, given that MOSTI is entrusted with leading the Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR).

“Simultaneously, we aim to establish a symbiotic relationship with Sarawak as our country advances towards HETR development,” he said.

He told this to the media following a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Additionally, during the visit, various topics were raised, including potential collaborations within the semiconductor sector.

“We intend to return for further discussions to strengthen cooperation between the federal government and the Sarawak government,” he affirmed.

The courtesy call was also attended by key figures, including MOSTI secretary-general Datuk Ts Dr Aminuddin Hassim, MOSTI deputy secretary-general (Technology Development) Datuk Ts Dr Mohd Nor Azman Hassan, MOSTI deputy secretary-general (Planning and Science Enculturation) Ruziah Shafei, and Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
