MUKAH: The Sarawak government through the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development aims to produce a new generation that ventures into business, becoming job creators as a result.

In a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development  Dr Ripin Lamat said his ministry has introduced the Sarawak Youth Creative Industry Fund (SYCIF) in the form of grants that support youth who are active in creative industries such as art, culture, creativity and innovation.

“We are aware that many companies are going out of business or downsizing their business and many of our graduates have been graduating in 2019, 2020 and 2021. These are the ones we encourage to become entrepreneurs.

“It is hoped that the youths today will be able to take advantage of all the information and experience received to prepare themselves to become excellent and competitive entrepreneurs in the future,” he said during the Youth Entrepreneurs Setup (YES) 2023 programme held here, recently.

Touching on the programme, he said it is also in line with the ministry’s vision which is ‘Towards Word-Class Youth, Sports for All and Outstanding Youth Entrepreneurs’ and hoped for more individuals to be involved in the entrepreneurship field in the state.

Youth Entrepreneurs Setup in Mukah is the eighth location for the first edition and it is the ministry’s core programme under Entrepreneur Development to promote entrepreneurship among youth aged 15 to 40 in Sarawak.

A town hall session was also held with Dr Ripin, Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi and Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.
