Ministry urges Pan Borneo contractors to carry works with utmost care

KUCHING: The Sa rawa k Ministry of Utilities has advised the Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd and their work package contractors and sub-contractors to carry out their works with utmost care and diligence to avoid water supply interruption caused by excavation works.

The ministry, in a statement yesterday, said numerous reports of water supply interruption due to pipe bursts arising from pipe damages caused by excavation works carried out by the Pan Borneo Highway work package contractors had been highlighted in the local newspapers.

“The Ministry of Utilities is very concerned that incidents of such water supply interruption are getting more frequent. “These interruptions have caused great inconvenience to the affected consumers leaving them with dry taps or very low water pressure for days in some cases,” the statement said.

It said, in the event of any water supply interruption caused by damage to existing pipeline due to road works, the project delivery partner and their work package contractor shall be responsible and to pay for the cost of repair work for the damaged pipeline.

“For pipelines bigger than 150 mm diametre, the state Rural Water Supply Deparmtent will arrange to carry out the repair works and all costs incurred to be borne by Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd,” added the statement.
