MIRI: Firemen from Lopeng Fire station prevented a bush fire from spreading at Jalan Miri by-pass today.

According to a spokesperson of Miri Fire and Rescue Department, the fire had destroyed around five acres of the bush area in the incident.

Firemen managed to bring the fire under control at 11.55 am. They were also assisted by Naim Cendera Berhad’s in-house fire fighting unit.

The operation ended at 1.08 pm and the fire is believed to be caused by irresponsible individuals who carried out open burning.

Miri is experiencing a scorching hot week with the daily temperatures ranging from 30 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius.

Last week, during Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas’s visit here, after chairing a meeting with Miri Disaster Management Committee (MDMC), he had reminded the public including landowners to refrain from any open burning activities during the current dry season.
