Miri inks MoU with Korean county

MIRI: Miri and Gochang-gun (County) Jeollabukdo Province, Republic of South Korea yesterday morning inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing a “Friendship City”.

Gochang-gun (County) Jeollabukdo Province was represented by its mayor, Deokseob Shim and Miri City by mayor Adam Yii at the event held at the City Hall in Marina Bay here.

Yii, in his opening remarks, disclosed that the MoU was part of their action plan to create an ‘international link’ for tourism promotion abroad and grab more mutual benefits. 

“Miri City Council has pledged to make things happen and to realise its vision,” he said.

Yii added that the council was set to further transform Miri City into a smart, vibrant, green and most liveable resort city.

“We have signed similar (MoU)  with other cities including Wei Hai City, Shandong Province, The People’s Republic of China, in 2021,” he disclosed.

Yii added the establishment of international links through the signing of the MOU on the friendship city was Miri City’s long term commitment to friendly exchanges, mutual cooperation and seeking of common interests covering economic, trade, science and technology, culture, education and tourism so as to achieve mutual prosperity between the cities.

Miri City Day 18th anniversary celebration started with the official launching of the City Council Open Day, followed by the MoU signing ceremony.

Various entertainment programme featuring traditional performances were staged the whole of yesterday, followed by the evening programme to mark the closing of the open day.

Also present was Miri City deputy mayor Ariffin Mohamad.
