Miri mayor briefs Premier on city transformation

KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received courtesy calls from Miri City Council (MCC) and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, today (Sept 27).

The visit by the MCC delegation was led by Miri mayor Adam Yii. 

Yii said that among the matters discussed was the Miri City Transformation Lab report which was held from June 19 to July 9.

He said the lab was an initiative to coordinate the development of Miri City in line with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.

“The objective of this lab is to make Miri a green, smart and suitable city for international tourism,” he said after the courtesy call. 

In addition, Yii said he had presented a list of ‘projek rakyat’ to the Premier for consideration, including the celebration of Miri City’s 20th anniversary in 2025.

He also informed Abang Johari about the issue of the Integrated Waste Management Complex in Miri City that requires immediate solution.

Meanwhile, the visitors from DBP were led by its director-general Dr Hazami Jahari. 

Hazami said the purpose of the visit was to invite the Premier to officiate at two programmes drawn up by DBP.

“We will hold a seminar related to lexicology and lexicography in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on Oct 25 and 26 and we invite the Premier to officiate at the seminar.

“In addition, we have also invited the Premier to launch several publications, especially special projects related to 60 years anniversary of Sarawak Independence,” he said.
