Miri praised, remains green zone

KUCHING: The people in Miri have been praised for their efforts and cooperation in ensuring that there has been no new positive Covid-19 case reported in the district for over one month.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said Miri has remained as a green zone for over 40 days and this was due to everyone’s efforts.

“For Miri people, we are very thankful. We have been a green zone for over 40 days and this is a wonderful effort from each and every one,” he said in a video message posted on Facebook on Sunday.

Ting, who is also the Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, said on behalf of the people in Miri, he wanted to thank everyone for their tireless efforts in fighting Covid-19.

“I would also like to congratulate our federal and state governments for their excellent efforts. Indeed, Malaysia has done well and we are now well recognised internationally in managing this crisis.

“Let’s continue this fight and we will definitely win this battle,” he said.

In the meantime, he said some 200,000 masks will be distributed to frontliners soon.

“Miri is blessed that we have a lot of generous donors. I would like express my gratitude to those who donated in cash and in kinds.

“On the face masks itself, I have received 94,500 face masks thus far, and I have also purchased 41,000 face masks. All these have been distributed to the people,” he said.
