SEBUYAU: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for a 12-year-old boy feared to have drowned after allegedly playing near the seawall at Kampung Giat Mara on Sunday (May 19) yielded no new leads.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the fourth day of the search involved a total search area of 8km yesterday (May 23).

The land search along the banks involved a 2km search radius from where the boy is feared to have drowned, and the search along river involved a 6km search radius across Sebuyau jetty.

Meanwhile, the search at sea was carried out upstream from where the boy is feared to have drowned.

At the time of writing, the search is still ongoing.

The operation involved a total of 36 personnel from the police, marine police, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB).

On the day of the incident, the boy identified as Mohamad Aidil Fiqrie Mohamad Rafik, was last seen wearing a brown short sleeved shirt and black pants.

According to a police report lodged by the family, the boy had left his house in Jalan Giat Mara, Sebuyau with a friend at around 9.30am.

In addition, Aidil is also seen to be playing by the seawall at Kampung Giat Mara before disappearing.

Efforts have been made to look for the boy around Kampung Sebuyau but he was not found.
