KUCHING: Qari Mohd Syahazizamir Sahmat and Qariah Hapipah Julaihi were adjudged winners in their respective categories at the Samariang constituency Al-Quran recitation contest which ended on Sunday night.

Both managed to captivate the hearts of the judges after competing for three nights with 26 other contestants from various branches.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at the closing ceremony held at Darul Husnul Khatimah Mosque, Semerah Padi and presented prizes to the winners.

In his speech, he praised the community’s continuous efforts in continuing religious activities every year without fail.

“With the implementation of such a programme, we will not only be able to polish the talent of reciting the Quran, but also be more sensitive to its teachings,” he said.

Meanwhile, Samariang assemblywoman Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali also expressed her desire to produce a generation literate in the Al-Quran through such programmes.

“We want our children not only to be smart academically, but also in reciting the Quran.

“In that regard, I would like to thank everyone for making this programme a success during this glorious month of Ramadan,” she said.
