KUCHING: Mrs Charity Queen Sarawak (MCQS) 2019 has been crowned — a mother who radiates both inner and outer beauty.

Thirteen finalists vied for the title, with Janeshah Chin, 31, emerging victorious at the MCQS grand finale at the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Auditorium on Saturday night.

For her victory, Janeshah won RM2,000, a crown and sash worth RM3,000, a trophy, as well as a year’s worth of facial and hair services by sponsors, jewellery worth RM3,000 and beauty products.

The other winners were Sylvia Vincent, 33 (first runner-up), Martha Mervy Kulen, 40 (second runner-up), Nurulhuda Sha’adi, 35 (third runner-up), Julia Thomson Guran, 42 (fourth runner-up), Erlin Christopher Pandong, 33 (fifth runner-up), and Victoria Musa, 35 (sixth runner-up).

Janeshah, Sylvia, Martha, Nurulhuda, Erlin, and another finalist Nurul Fatihah will be representing Sarawak at the Mrs Malaysia World 2019 pageant in Kuala Lumpur.

The competition, which goes beyond a typical beauty pageant, involved all the participants in charitable works for less fortunate children.

In total, 14 students received aid such as cash, school uniforms, school bags and stationery, donated by the MCQS finalists themselves, as well as Double Event Management, the organiser.

The selected recipients were presented with donations by the pageant participants at the grand finale.

“Mrs Malaysia World aims to impart to each and every participant with the importance of giving back to the society.

“Our mission is to empower these women to be role models to their families, community and peers,” said national director of Mrs Malaysia World Datin Harveen Kaur, who is also Mrs Malaysia World 2017.

“I am a strong supporter of the pageant’s focus on community development initiatives. I believe that the society has come to realise that merging community building and youth development is a must,” she emphasised.

Harveen challenged the MCQS finalists to become agents of change in the communities that they live in.

During the session of advocacy speeches and the question-and-answer round, participants spoke of the undeniable significance of education to children from a young age, the importance of charity, as well as their role to contribute to the society using MCQS as a platform for community betterment.

Some shared their heart-warming personal experiences which made them even more immersed in this charitable cause.

For the six subsidiary titles, the “Darling of the Crowd” title went to Janeshah, winning her RM1,000, a sash, crown and plaque. The other five title winners won RM100 as well as a sash, crown and plaque.

Victoria won the “Mrs Popular” title, while Crystal Ann Manja, 29, won the title of “Mrs Photogenic”.

Nurulhuda was “Mrs Social Media”, Martha won “Mrs Congeniality”, and two participants received the “Mrs Ambassador” title — Christina Laong Kayang, 35, and Chelsnie Adantemapur, 38.

The second runner-up of Mrs World 2019 who is also Mrs Malaysia World 2018/2019, Kokilam Kathirvailu, commended all the charitable efforts that had been carried out by participants.

“You all are already winners,” she said during her speech.
