LONG LAMA: More than 10 longhouses from the SAN area i.e from Long Tap stretching up to Long Palai are included in the SAN Area Development Action Committee that was launched recently.

The formation of the committee is timely and  a step forward in the quest to bring both physical and economic development to the people of the San area.

“I believe this is to complement all our strategies. If  all the longhouses group like this and you all move with one heart and mind, I believe we can achieve more,”  remarked  Baram Member of Parliament, Anyie Ngau at the launching of the committee last Saturday at Telang Usan District Office in Long Lama.

He also advised the elected committee headed by Penghulu Anthony Kule to take their responsibilities seriously and honestly.

He suggested that the committee  quickly sit down to make short, medium and long term plans to be discussed with their representatives and brought up  to the relevant authorities.

“It’s ok to put up some proposals but  leave it to the authorities to decide what is best for the people in the area,” he added.

Anyie said the aim of the action committee  was to develop all the people and the longhouses in the SAN area.

Telang Usan  State Assemblyman, Dennis Ngau,  also spoke.

He said the new Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg was continuing  the efforts started by the late Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem  to develop rural Sarawak.

“The formation of the area development committee   in Telang Usan is  timely and should be a platform to put forward the people’s needs  to the government,” he added.

“What I see happening today worries me as only the  senior citizens are staying home. What will happen when these  people are no more there?” Dennis asked.

At the function, Anyie contributed a Minor Rural Project grant of RM20,000 to the committee for its activities.
