THE Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunication is urged to address the issues of treated water supply, unclean water and low water pressure in multiple areas of Kanowit, Sibu Division.

Machan assemblyman Allan Siden Gramong said residents in some areas were still facing the problem of unclean water supply and low water pressure, especially after heavy rain.

To this end, he called on the ministry to provide updates on the latest developments or measures that has been implemented in the clean water supply project for the Machan constituency as well as the ongoing New Water Treatment Plant and Associated Works Project in Kanowit.

He said this when debating in support of the head of state’s address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday (May 18).

The New Water Treatment Plant and Associated Works Project in Kanowit will benefit 37 longhouses in Majau, Mam, Batu Luking, Nanga Poi and Nanga Menalun as well as three primary schools, namely, Batu Luking National School, Majau National and Menalun National School.

“This issue is not a foreign matter and I have presented in previous DUN sittings.

“Treated and quality water supply is very important for us to carry out daily routines such as cooking, drinking and washing.

“For the Kanowit area, a few communities are still unable to enjoy treated water supply. These people can only depend on rainwater as their source of water.

“Therefore, I hope that the responsible party will pay serious attention to this matter so that this project can be implemented as soon as possible.” he said.
