KUCHING: Mosques and suraus are urged to engage more youths and non-Muslims in their activities.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof pointed out that these religious institutions serve not only as places of worship but also as centres of knowledge and information dissemination.

He added that the focus should not only limit to worshippers but also to non-Muslims to allow the community to further strengthen their bond with one another.

“Sarawak in particular, mutual religious understanding is important to maintain harmony and inter-ethnic relations.

“It is to ensure that every layer of society, regardless of background, continues to respect each other, thereby strengthening unity in the state and the country,” he said.

He said this when met by the media after the handing over the Petra Jaya Parliament grant to mosques and suraus at Darul Hana Mosque, Kampung No 6 here last night (Feb 18)

The grant distribution ceremony saw a total of RM325,000 allocated to 89 mosques and suraus in the Petra Jaya Parliamentary constituency.

These funds, provided as annual grants of RM5,000 and RM3,000 respectively, are aimed at enhancing the management of these religious institutions and making them more inviting to the public.

Fadillah urged recipients to utilise the grants effectively, ensuring that mosques and suraus are well-maintained and conducive for all members of the community.
