Motorbike thief jailed seven months

KUCHING: A man was sentenced to seven months in prison by the Magistrate Court today for stealing a Yamaha motorcycle of a cashier who works at a 24-hour shop in Jalan Pending.

The accused, Zambri, 35 pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code read before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

According to the charge sheet, the accused committed the offence at Kampung Paroh, Jalan Matang-Batu Kawa at around 8.20 am on April 8, 2022.

Upon conviction he is liable to be jailed for up to five years, be fined or both.

Based on the fact sheets, on March 13, 2022, at around 3.30cam, the complainant and a friend were at the shop after being attacked by two men with a hammer and an iron rod pointing towards the complainant to open the cashier machine for money.

The accused then took the money and went off with the complainant’s motorcycle. 

The complainant lodged a police report for further action and investigation.

On April 8, 2022, at around 8.20 am, the police made a raid to Kampung Paroh and arrested the accused and confiscated the alleged stolen motorcycle.

Further investigations revealed that the accused replaced the old plate number and used a  fake plate number.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Mohd Adzmei Ahmad while the accused was not represented by counsel.
