KUCHING: Amendments to the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) Act1965, among other things, will be addressed at the next sitting of Parliament to allow FAMA to manage the marketing of livestock products.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said the move would enable FAMA to expand its role not only in marketing agriculture but also the livestock sector.
“Amendments will include livestock among the jurisdictions that will be entrusted to FAMA to enable them to manage the marketing of certain livestock commodities.
“It has been agreed to by the members of the Cabinet. So, it needs to be presented at the next parliamentary session, ”he said.
He said this in a press conference after completing the national -level Semarak Syawal programme organised by FAMA at Medan Niaga Satok (MNS) here yesterday.
“It will balance the supply chain of livestock products, besides helping farmers and agri -entrepreneurs to market their products in a more effective way,” he explained.
Currently there are no specialised agencies conducting livestock marketing activities, he said.
