KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has removed and confiscated 43 advertising signage boards without council approval from various companies and business premises during a recent operation called Ops Cabut.

The operation was conducted in response to numerous complaints received by MPP from the public.

“These advertising signs were mainly placed along the main road without obtaining proper approval from the council, obstructing the view of road users at intersections and traffic lights.

“The operation targeted commercial areas in Pine Square/Desa Wira and Emart Dpublic Square.

“In this ongoing operation, a total of 43 advertising signboards without council approval from various companies and business premises were removed and confiscated,” MPP said in a statement on its Facebook page.

MPP stressed that installing or displaying an advertisement sign within the jurisdiction of a local authority without a license is an offence under the Local Authority Ordinance (Advertisement) By-Laws 2012.

“If convicted, offenders may face a fine not exceeding RM5,000 and imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months.”

MPP advised companies, business premises, and individuals intending to install or display billboard advertisements to apply for permission and obtain approval from the council beforehand.

This would help prevent legal action against the advertising materials and their owners, the council added.
