KUCHING: About RM68,000 was spent on furniture, renovation and improvement of SK Lumba Kuda this year.

Kuching MP  Dr Kevin Yii, who disclosed this, said the purpose was to create a more conducive environment for the pupils and their teachers.

He said the money was used to purchase tables and chairs for the teachers and students, resurfacing and improving the staff room and resurfacing of an open court for the pupils to do physical exercise and sports training.

“I visited the school and spoke to the principal and teachers to find out their needs and concerns and how best we could provide a better environment for them,” said Dr Kevin.

“I was told about the bad condition of the open space where the pupils train for sports and do their physical exercise. There were many holes in the ground and it was uneven.”

He noted that SK Lumba Kuda excels in various sports especially netball and so he used some of his funds to hire a contractor to resurface the whole area.

He hoped the move would encourage more pupils to take up sports now that they have a better place to play and exercise.

The school was also given allocation to re-tile and upgrade the floor of the staff room.

Dr Kevin said education had always been close to his heart and he has visited most of the schools in his constituency to find out their needs and ways to help them.
