MRP fund for 25 NGOs

SIBU: A total of 25 non-governmental organisations (NGO) in the Bukit Assek constituency received minor rural project (MRP) funds here.

The initiative was initiated by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek to help the NGOs from different agencies to run their community project

“We would like to support NGO, in order for them to organise more meaningful activities project for our Sibu people,” he said when met by reporter today.

Chieng also noted that he will try his best to support and help those NGOs regardless of their religion and background.

However, he stressed that the project must be meaningful, with its impact being able to influence the community toward a better cause which he deemed as very crucial.

“Some of the NGOs, they do some good impact project but unfortunately due to lack of funding, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic period.

“Hence, in order to revitalise and for them to continue on the project, I will give them project fund,” he said.

Chieng also revealed that the NGO that applies for the fund must be a registered NGO which situated in Bukit Assek constituencies.

On another note, Chieng also urged every NGO to put up the Sarawak flag in conjunction with the Sarawak day celebration today (July 22).

“Together we can celebrate our Sarawak Independence day especially since this is the first time that we hold it in Sibu which is very meaningful to us,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bukit Assek Branch Chairman Datuk Chieng Boon Tuong.
