KUCHING: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) has received a courtesy visit from the Malaysia Smart Cities Alliance Association (MSCA).

The delegation that was led by chairman of MSCA and senior vice president of Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) Dr Raslan Ahmad shared that they are keen to establish cooperation with Sarawak through SMA to achieve a common goal for a sustainable smart nation, with Sarawak’s vast experience in its digitalisation policy.

“We hoped that we can establish cooperation with SMA because we believe the success stories and best practices by Sarawak under the leadership of SMA should be emulated by the other states in Malaysia and perhaps at the global level,” he said in a statement today.

He also added that MSCA is a platform established for the council members to deliberate on the issues and challenges of a smart city and create opportunities for networking among the stakeholders.

“MSCA consists of cross-sector participation from the government and its agencies, smart cities services and solution providers, industry players and academia.

“Thus, forming a new structure comprising founding members, innovators, and funders governed by the strategic objectives, with specific roles and responsibilities for the members,” he added.

During the courtesy visit, general manager of SMA Dr Zaidi Razak then shared with the delegation on the state’s plan to capitalise on digital technologies to maximise digital value, and delivering simple, secure and trusted service for the benefits of the people.

“We are honoured that we are able to attract interests from various parties, be it the government agencies from other states and industry experts. This shows that Sarawak is regarded as a digital powerhouse since the commencement of the digital economy agenda in 2018,” he said.

Zaidi also added that they believed that public and community partnership involving all stakeholders was important because it would provide a platform to bring about successful economic transformation and growth for the betterment of all Sarawakians.
