Firemen extricate one of the pinned victims inside the Bezza last night.

MUKAH: A local man died on the spot while nine others sustained injuries following a two-vehicle collision near the new Mukah airport last night (August 12).

The 8.10pm accident involved a Perodua Bezza and a Perodua Alza with five people each inside the vehicles.

Three of them were reportedly pinned in the Bezza, while the others managed to get out with assistance from passers-by.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Mukah station were deployed to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arrival, the team quickly performed rescue works to extricate three pinned victims. They were later handed over to the paramedics for medical attention.

However, one of them, identified as Dimas Masri Hasnawi, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was then taken to Mukah Hospital for further action.

Meanwhile, the remaining victims — four in Bezza and five in Alza — had sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The extent of their injuries was not known.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team concluded the operation.
