WARSAW: Robert Lewandowski said his departure from Bayern Munich would be the best solution, as the Pole can’t imagine further cooperation after everything that has happened in recent months, Xinhua reported.

Just after the season ended, the forward revealed that he would not extend his contract with the German champions, with his current deal expiring in June 2023.

According to the player’s agent Pini Zahavi, the Bavarians haven’t offered the 33-year-old a new contract, while the club claimed Lewandowski turned down their proposal.

It was reported that the Pole would like to join Barcelona, with Spanish and German media saying that he remains in talks with the Catalan club.

“My story with Bayern is over. After everything that has happened in recent months I cannot imagine further good cooperation. My departure would be the best solution for both sides.

“Bayern is a serious club so I believe they won’t stop me just because they can do that. That’s all I can say about my future.

“I think after Poland’s game it may be time to add something more. Now I’m fully focused on the forthcoming match,” Lewandowski said on Monday evening ahead of Poland’s match against Wales in the UEFA Nations League on Wednesday.

Bayern president Oliver Kahn has already responded to Lewandowski’s words.

“I cannot answer why Robert chose this path. These types of public statements get nowhere.

“Lewandowski became the world’s best footballer twice in a row. I think he should know what he has in Bayern. Appreciation doesn’t just work in one direction,” the former goalkeeper told German media. – BERNAMA
