KUCHING: In response to MYAirline’s decision to halt operations as of last Thursday, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has taken to task the airline’s “irresponsible” management.

The sudden suspension, according to the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, has impacted some 5,000 travellers in Sarawak, a sizable portion of whom were students.

“It appears that MYAirline’s management is incredibly careless. Since so many people have purchased tickets, you just cannot stop it at that point.

“I find it incredibly irresponsible of individuals in management that you would just stop abruptly in that manner. Give some notice that your operation is going to end, and at least some people will not rush into purchasing tickets,

“That’s the least you can do,” he said when speaking to reporters at the State Legislative Assembly building for the Borneo Opera Festival Gala Night on Thursday.

In order to stop similar situations from happening again, Abdul Karim further encouraged the government and relevant authorities, specifically the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) and the federal Transport Ministry, to take action,

“Anybody who makes that kind of decisions at MYAirline is acting in a very irresponsible manner.

“For people from Sabah and Sarawak in particular, flying travel is already required. Other than flying, we have no other options. It’s completely absurd that you would suddenly cease it in that manner,” he said.
