SPAOH: Housewives have been urged to register and contribute to the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) which provides various benefits in the event of an accident.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri awareness on this scheme has to be enhanced in the community.
According to her, the public only needs to pay a contribution of RM120 for a period of 12 consecutive months, which can be made by the husband, housewife, family or any third party for the housewife.
“It means as low as RM10 a month, if anything happens, contributors can claim protection.
“However, it’s quite sad when the community’s response is still too low…not many housewives in the state have registered for SKSSR under the auspices of the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
“Therefore, now Socso is often involved in our programme to promote initiatives that are considered important.
“When they contribute RM10 a month, SKSSR provides domestic disaster protection to housewives who meet with an accident or any incident while doing household stuff.
“The same goes for protecting housewives who are afflicted with illness or infirmity,” she said during the Women’s Rise Programme @KPWKM (Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development) at the Spaoh Community Hall, yesterday.
The programme was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

Meanwhile on the @KPWKM MyKasih Kapital Wanita Bangkit Programme Nancy informed that a total of RM293,500 was distributed to 587 participants.
She said, women from the Betong parliamentary constituency who participated were given RM500 per person.
“The KPWKM initiative provides an opportunity for women to improve their family’s economy so that they can enjoy a better standard of living.
“The next step is to be the best platform to elevate the role of women in contributing to the national economy.
“In today’s programme, they were given a briefing on recognising their potential, anti-sexual harassment, the introduction of MamaCare, SKSSR and the Self-Employment Security Scheme (SKPS),” she said.
All over Sarawak so far, about 3,181 women who are Wanita Bangkit @KPWKM MyKasih Kapital participants have benefited from the same.
