KUCHING: Santubong Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri wishes to bring back Santubong as a historic place as well as stimulate the tourism sector.

In stating this, she pledged that there will be more activities and programmes organised in the parliamentary constituency, which will bring together the local folks and the people outside to join in.

“We want to bring back the days of Santubong as a historic place. Since I was a child, this place has been a focal point for tourists from outside and within the country.

“Therefore, we are taking this opportunity to uplift it so that the local folks are also able to seize the opportunity to increase their local economy here,” she said.

She said this in her speech when officiating a district-level Al-Quran recitation at Nurir Rahmani Mosque, Kampung Santubong here, last night (June 9).

Meanwhile, touching on the event, Nancy pointed out that the organisation of such a programme has a high impact on the community in terms of deepening and learning the knowledge of the Quran.

She stated that this is because the programme increases the community’s awareness of the Quran as a core guide in their daily lives.

“Coinciding with this year’s theme, ‘Karamah Insaniah Pemangkin Ummah Madani’, this programme gives the meaning of high human dignity and privileges within themselves that need to be valued and protected.

“When a person has a high ‘Insaniah Karamah’, they will surely be able to maintain their true human dignity and value.

“By respecting and practising ‘Karamah Insaniah’, ummah can be created where the community can live in harmony, respect each other, and develop in an integrated manner,” she said.

The event was participated by a total of 33 Qari and Qariah.
