KUCHING: Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri has assured that she will do her best for the constituents in Santubong.

The caretaker federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture replaced incumbent Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar when the list of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates was announced today.

Wan Junaidi had earlier recommended his political secretary, Datuk Seri Syed Hamzah Syed Paie, to succeed him as the GPS candidate for the 15th general election (GE15).

Nancy’s name was announced by Premier and GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg after the presentation of writs to all 31 candidates held at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here.

“I hope that the Santubong incumbent (Wan Junaidi) will back me up throughout the campaign period.

“No matter what, I will try to ensure that this seat remains in the hands of GPS,” she said when met by the media.

In the meantime, she also expressed her gratitude to Abang Johari for giving the opportunity and trust.

“I would also like to extend my gratitude to Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi and his team for doing such a great job in Santubong.”

Wan Junaidi chose not to seek re-election. He has been the Santubong MP since 2004.

Following Nancy’s switch to Santubong, GPS will field a new face, Rodiyah Sapiee, in Batang Sadong.
