SIBU: The rural population in Nanga Ngungun, Ngemah is now enjoying a better life as a result of the development brought in by the Sarawak government.

“After 50 years, the community in the area grew while the longhouse and its population also increased.

“In the past, this area could only be reached by river transport and quite far from the town of Kanowit. Now Nanga Ngungun is connected by road which directly facilitates the movement of residents to get services and facilities provided by the government,” he said during a ‘Leader with The People’ event held in conjunction with a motorcycle convoy led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to Nanga Ngungun on Sunday.

During the trip, Abang Johari had the opportunity to spend time with the villagers.

Alexander said, among the facilities provided by the government in the area included clean water and electricity supply, health clinic, school and multipurpose hall.

He pointed out that there were 24 longhouses with a total population of 4,647 people in the Nanga Ngungun Resettlement Scheme area.

“The increase in population will definitely need more infrastructure and social facilities to improve the well-being of the people.

“The people here have high hopes that under the leadership of the chief minister and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, Nanga Ngungun, Nanga Tada, Nanga Jagau, Kabah and Ngemah will continue to develop and contribute to the overall development of Sarawak,” he said.
