KUCHING: After a year of preparation work, the 78th National Delegates Conference & the 83rd Anniversary of the Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia is set to take place from today until Thursday at Pullman Hotel Kuching.
The Kuching Teochew Association has been entrusted to host the auspicious National Teochew Conference together with the help of seven other Teochew Associations from Sri Aman, Engkilili, Sibu, Mukah, Tatau, Bintulu and Miri.
Over 1200 delegates from the 54 affiliated member-associations nationwide will partake in the conference and 83th Anniversary Celebration Dinner including special guests from Singapore and China. This is the fifth time that Kuching is hosting the national conference.
While the conference will only commence today, many delegates have arrived earlier to join the pre-conference tour package.
The programme on the first day includes the national Teochew youth bowling competition, prize-giving ceremony of the arts competition, Teochew culture general knowledge contest, Women Talent Performance and the welcoming dinner.
The Women Talent Performance will be held today at 3.30pm; it will be graced by Datin Hajah Azerina Mohd Arip @ Gertie Chong.
This annual women activity provides a platform for Teochew women from throughout Malaysia to get together for fellowship and features various cultural performances by the women members. The programme includes singing, dances, Teochew opera and drama, etc. This is part of the many efforts of the Women’s Section to promote Teochew culture to the young generation.
Tomorrow, there will be a seminar on Teochew culture, the Youth and Women’s Section Conference followed by the grand anniversary dinner in the evening.
The delegates’ conference will be held on Thursday. A post conference tour is also available for delegates to visit various tourist attractions in Sarawak.
The national conference is supported by the Sarawak government and the Sarawak Convention Bureau to promote tourism and business investment.
