LIMBANG: Technological advancements, while noble in essence, bring with them a host of challenges that call for a judicious response.

Deputy Minister of Transport Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said much good can come out of using technology, like conveying information, preaching, imparting teachings, and more.

However, he said there are also people who take advantage of it to spread slander, incite division, and others, leading to conflicts between religions and races.

“So, this is our challenge today, especially for religious leaders or preachers; this matter is becoming more challenging,” he said at a pre-Christmas celebration here recently where he represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

“Our situation now is not like before, where people would just follow. But now, what we say can be questioned or challenged, even if it comes from our religious texts.”

He said it was therefore imperative to maintain the existing religious harmony, especially given that in today’s challenging world many followers of religion no longer adhere strictly to their teachings and instead take lightly what their respective religions preach.

Hasbi, in this context, was quick to add that from the past until now, the people in Limbang have lived harmoniously, forging close relationships, and discussing and cooperating well in various matters.

“All of this is the result of what our predecessors practised. In Limbang, we adhere to our respective religions and receive proper education from our elders. There are no extreme teachings or teachings that can fuel racial tension and hostility towards other religions,” he said.

Batu Danau assemblyman Datuk Paulus Palu Gumbang was among those present at the programme.
