KUCHING: The long-awaited new building for Rumah Seri Kenangan (RSK) Kuching, an old folks’ home at Mile 12, Kuching-Serian Road, will be completed at the end of this year.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Minister Datuk Sri Fatimah Abdullah said the project, which was supposed to be completed in 2015, had run into problems with the previous contractor.

“Datuk Francis Harden Hollis (Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing) and his team had visited the site and he was informed by the new contactor that the project will be completed one month earlier,” she said in her speech during her official visit to RSK Kuching which had been temporarily relocated to Samarahan Rehabilitation Centre, Jalan Datuk Muhammad Musa in Kota Samarahan  since 2012.

Fatimah said the initial construction cost of the new RSK building was RM20 million. As time went by, the cost had increased.

“The cost now is RM24 million. With the new contractor, we hope RSK Kuching project will be completed on time,” she added.
