New cases fall to 493

KUCHING: Sarawak yesterday (Monday) recorded 493 new Covid-19 cases, 261 fewer cases from 754 the previous day.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 481 of the new cases were of Categories 1 and 2 while 12 cases were of Categories 3, 4 and 5.

Kuching topped the list of new cases with 128, followed by Miri (82); Sibu (60); Bintulu (30); Lawas (26); Mukah (25); 16 each in Sarikei and Kanowit; Serian (13); Saratok (12); Betong (11).

Eight cases each were reported in Pakan and Dalat; seven each in Tanjung Masin and Subis; five in Meradong; four each in Sri Aman, Kapit and Pusa; three each in Bau, Kabong, Samarahan, Tebedu and Telang Usan; two each in Asajaya, Simunjan, Lundu and Tatau and one each in Song, Daro, Julau and Selangau.

The committee disclosed that there were 18 backlog death cases related to Covid-19 infections on Sept 12 and between Oct 11 and Oct 24.

“Those who died were aged 17 to 97 from the Bintulu, Limbang, Sibu, Betong, Sarikei, Kuching and Samarahan Divisions. All had histories of chronic illnesses or comorbidities,” the SDMC said.

The committee also announced the end of two Covid-19 clusters in the state, namely, the Kampung Muara Tebas 2 cluster in Kuching and the Batu 10 Jalan Oya cluster in Sibu after no new cases were reported or detected in the past 28 days involving these clusters.

The state currently has 36 active Covid-19 clusters.
On another note, the committee said Rumah Jengayang, Jalan Sungai Rusa in Sarikei will undergo the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from Oct 26 to Nov 1.

“The EMCO has been lifted at five locations on Monday (Oct 25) in Sri Aman, Julau, Sarikei and Daro,” SDMC added.
