NMSC introduces the new equipment to treat haemorrhoids.

Normah Medical Specialist Centre (NMSC) is dedicated to improving medical care while keeping its patients’ safety and comfort in mind.

Earlier this year, NMSC invested in new German-made equipment to enable permanent and faster recovery from haemorrhoids disease.

NMSC is now the only private medical centre in Sarawak with this equipment, allowing it to deliver in-house microsurgery with minimally invasive laser haemorrhoid treatment with no waiting time.

Haemorrhoids (also known as piles) are a prevalent condition that is a taboo subject that most people avoid discussing. Haemorrhoids are an uncomfortable pain in the buttocks that itches and burns

At least half of the population, whether male or female, has experienced the unpleasant consequences of this disease at some point in their lives. In most cases, using cream does not result in long-term improvement. Most people wait until it bleeds before seeking medical help.

Medical treatment is the only approach to ensure that the condition is permanently cleared. Invasive intervention using laser energy shrinks haemorrhoid tissue from the inside, without any cutting or exposed wounds, and is most suited for stages 2 to 4 haemorrhoids.

The minimally invasive laser haemorrhoid treatment procedure only requires inserting a thin laser fibre (less than 2mm) into the haemorrhoid pad tissue to emit laser light, which directly blocks the venous blood supply of haemorrhoids, causing the haemorrhoid tissue to shrink from the inside out and eventually disappear. There will be no damage to the sphincter muscle.
As the laser fibre’s head emits light, the surgeon can pinpoint the location of the haemorrhoids. At the same time, the anus’ structure can be preserved, reducing the likelihood of incontinence to nearly zero.

The free mammogram screening — available to all female citizens.

The danger of developing anal stricture is quite low with laser treatment compared to other haemorrhoid treatment options, and there are no incisions following sore treatment, so the risk of wound infection is greatly reduced.

The laser surgical procedure takes only 20 to 30 minutes to complete. After the anaesthetic wears off, the patient should be able to walk around with caution. Depending on the patient’s health, an overnight stay at Normah Medical Specialist Centre is often required.

This treatment is less painful and has a faster recovery time than typical excision surgery, and it will not interfere with daily activities or leave any foreign objects in the body.

In another matter, LPPKN designated Normah Specialist Medical Centre as one of the hospitals to provide a free mammography screening programme, which allows women to detect breast cancer early. The 2D mammography approach is used at NMSC because it is faster and favoured by most women with low pain tolerance.

All female Malaysian nationals aged 40 to 70 with a monthly household income of RM10,000 or less are eligible for a free mammogram screening. Women between the ages of 35 and 39 who have a high risk of breast cancer are also eligible with a doctor’s referral.

There are a limited number of slots available each day, and walk-in registration is accessible on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a female mammographer available.
