KUCHING: The Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) is proposing a new award category in partnership with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) for the Kenyalang Journalism Awards (KJA).

According to FSJA chairperson Jacqueline David, the ministry previously held KPDNHEP Media Awards as an annual event to celebrate the media’s contribution, with the last one in 2015.

“This is something that can be reimplemented because we organise the KJA every year and this year it will be held on Dec 4.

“Perhaps the ministry can consider reintroducing its media award as a new category in next year’s KJA.”

She said this during a media engagement session with KPDNHEP here on Thursday (Oct 21).

She also noted that the media continued to play important roles, especially in helping to disseminate information and raise awareness on the programmes as well as initiatives by the ministry.

“Overall, the ministry and the media have a good relationship. I hope that the existing open communication will continue.”
