KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will continue its effort to making the Padawan area an attractive tourist destination.

MPP chairman Tan Kai said the reason behind this was the untapped tourism potential of Padawan.

“Padawan has a great potential, and therefore, I hope we can work with the Tourism Ministry to further develop this area.”

He told New Sarawak Tribune this at his office here on today (May 9).

Tan Kai further elaborated that Padawan boasted a range of attractions, including hot springs, the Bengoh Dam, homestays and picturesque villages like Kampung Sapit, Kampung Sting and the Annah Rais longhouse.

“MPP also organises annual events like the Padawan Raft Safari and the Borneo Highland Run.

“As such, our objective is to increase awareness about the uniqueness of Padawan.”

On another note, Tan Kai, who recently assumed the role of MPP chairman, expressed determination to steer the council towards further improvement in delivering services across its jurisdiction, spanning an area of 984,338 square kilometres.

He took over from Lo Khere Chiang on April 1, and said despite in the seat for a short time, he would want MPP to continue to grow under him.

“I might only occupy this position for a brief period, perhaps a few months, or at most, nine years…

“…but I want to see MPP continue to achieve its goals, especially in terms of identifying and developing potential areas,” he stressed.
