New RM12.4 mln clinic for Sebuyau

SEBUYAU: A new health clinic costing RM12.4 million will be built here and expected to be completed within 18 months.

This was disclosed by Assistant Minister for Rural Economy (Coastal Areas), Datuk Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi during the handing over ceremony of project site here on Friday.

Julaihi, who is also Assistant Minister for Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) and Sebuyau Assemblyman said that at present there are two health clinics here, one in Sebuyau Bazaar and another in Sebangan Bazaar with two doctors in each clinic.

“The clinic in Sebuyau Bazaar has been in operation since the 1960s and there is a dire need for a new one with better facilities to meet the demands and a growing population here.

“The new health clinic to be sited on a seven- acre piece of land within the Sebuayu new township area will also include staff quarters.

“I have been requesting the Health Department for a new health clinic here because it is what the people want,” he said.

Touching on the new Sebuyau township, Julaihi said that among some of the facilities to be included (in addition the new health clinic) will be a mosque (currently under construction), a school (SMK Sebuyau), and a light industrial area.

“Everything is being implemented in stages,” said the assistant minister.
Meanwhile, State Public Works Department (JKR) project manager (building), Mohd Iswandi Ahmad Zaidin said that the construction of the new health clinic would include a clinic, a staff flat with 12 units and a block of studio quarters.

“It will also come with parking facilities for the public, staff members, the disabled, and ambulance,” said Iswandi.

Samarahan health officer, Dr Nur Fatihah Abdullah added that the new health clinic would only be able to handle ‘normal’ and light cases.

“However, once the new clinic is complete, there might be an increase of staff members to in line with the growing population,” she said.
