KUCHING: The newly appointed Army’s Eastern Field Command (PMTTD) Commander Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi paid a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the Baitul Makmur building here today.

The courtesy call was the first to be held after he took over the position last June 7.

According to him, the purpose of the courtesy call was to introduce himself and as well as brief on the latest developments regarding aspects of security and defence in Sarawak.

“Currently we find that the level of security in Sarawak is under control and the surveillance  as well as operations at the border posts have also been improved.

“We are also grateful to the Sarawak government for its concern which under the ‘Sarawak Defence Package’ programme has offered some equipment and supplies to the Malaysian Army.

“This morning’s discussion also focused more on the use of technology in defence to improve security in Sarawak,” he said when met by reporters after the courtesy call.
