Afternoon fire destroys double storey house

OYA: A semi concrete double storey house at Kampung Patok here went up in smoke last Sunday afternoon.

The quick action of the  Community Fire Brigade here  saved a neigbouring house from being gutted by the fire.

The Community Fire Brigade from Kampung Bakong   was the first to rush to the scene to extinguish the fire with a mobile pump.

According to a source, when the firemen from Mukah Town arrived, the double storey house belonging to    Kamil Bin Sabli, 52, was already 80 percent destroyed.

“We managed to control the fire at 2.25pm and put it out completely at about 2.43pm. The fast reaction by the Kampung Bakong  Community Fire Brigade has indeed prevented the fire from spreading to the nearest house,” he said.

Eight firemen from Mukah led by the acting Station Head,   Abdul Rasit Hj. Morni, were involved in the operation.

Also present were  policemen from Dalat District Police Headquarters and  members of the Civil Defence Force.

Meanwhile, Kamil, owner of the house which was 90 percent destroyed in the inferno that happened at about 1.30pm,   suffered 30 percent burns on his  face and hands. He was treated at the Dalat District Hospital.

The  cause of the fire and the estimated loss have not been  determined yet. The case is still under investigation.

Kampung Patok and Kampung Bakong,   located about 15 kilometres from Dalat Bazaar, are situated in Oya Sub-District.
