Explosions due to punctured tyres, not lorry on fire

SIBU: It was a minor relief as the explosions involving a tanker lorry here yesterday were only confined to its tyres and not its gasoline content.   

According to State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here it received report on the incident at 2.20pm, saying the tanker’s two tyres exploded when it punctured at the traffic light infront of a furniture shop in Lorong Lim Kai Cheng.

In the call received by Bomba, it said there was an explosion at the front part of a tanker lorry carrying gasoline. Smokes were said to be emitted by the explosion.

Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene with a vehicle and one water tanker led by PBKII Joseph Balun. Commander of the operation was PKPgB Alimat Sam.

Upon arrival at the scene, Bomba noticed that the tanker was not one fire as the explosions of the tyres did not cause any fire.

Nevertheless firemen at the scene made sure the tyres were secured of any fire.
