UiTM, PSPBK B Kuching, SMK Santubong G win titles

SANTUBONG: A total of 123 teams competed in the National Open Petanque Championship 2017 at the Petanque Centre Sarawak, Santubong.

The inaugural tournament which began on May 17 was divided into two categories – Institute of Higher Learning (IPTA) and Open category.

In the open category, a total of 118 teams participated, comprising 91 of men’s teams and 27 women’s teams with another five teams competing in the IPTA category.

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak took home the title of champions in the IPTA event to receive a cash prize of RM500 while the runners-up went to the Polytechnic Kuching B to bring home a cash prize of RM300 and Politeknik Kuching A won the third place for a cash prize of RM200.

For the men’s open category, PSPBK B (Kuching) emerged as the winners and took home a cash prize of RM2,000, while PSPBK 5 (Kuching) won the second place to bring back a cash prize of RM1,000 as RM700 cash prize for the third place winner SMK Santubong 5.

The open women’s category was won by SMK Santubong G, to receive a cash prize of RM1,000, while the runners-up JDT Benut (Johor) team won a cash prize of RM500 and third place SMK Santubong A took home a cash prize of RM200.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.
